Sean Murphy
Sean Murphy Spoils shutout Sunday
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 8:26 AM
Murphy went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Orioles.
Analysis: The backstop was the only Atlanta hitter to have much success against Trevor Rogers and the Baltimore bullpen, accounting for his team's only extra-base hits and its only run with his ninth-inning shot off Seranthony Dominguez. Murphy has gone yard four times in his last seven games, batting .318 (7-for-22) over that impressive span with two doubles and nine RBI. As a result, the playing-time split between him and rookie Drake Baldwin may be tipping Murphy's way heading toward the All-Star break.
Grant Holmes
Grant Holmes Quality start in loss
Sun, Jul 6, 2025, 1:36 PM
Holmes (4-8) took the loss Sunday against the Orioles, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: While he was ultimately outdueled by Trevor Rogers in a 2-1 loss, Holmes delivered another strong performance Sunday. The right-hander has pitched to a 1.86 ERA over his last five starts (29 innings) while striking out 41 in that span. Overall, Holmes sports a 3.44 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and 118:48 K:BB across 102 innings this season. He's currently slated to face the Cardinals on the road his next time out.
Austin Riley
Austin Riley Power perking up
Sun, Jul 6, 2025, 12:05 PM
Riley went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI in Saturday's loss to the Orioles.
Analysis: The third baseman launched a two-run homer off Dean Kremer in the first inning. although the lead didn't last long for Atlanta. Riley snapped a 13-game homer drought with the blast, but his power was showing signs of returning before Saturday -- over his last 12 contests, he's slashing .292/.333/.479 with four doubles and a triple among his 14 hits. On the season, Riley's up to 13 home runs and 45 RBI in 88 games, but a .761 OPS would be his lowest mark since 2020.
Dylan Dodd
Dylan Dodd Heads back to Triple-A
Sun, Jul 6, 2025, 9:35 AM
Atlanta optioned Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.
Analysis: After Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow) landed on the injured list earlier this week, Atlanta went with a bullpen day in Saturday's 9-6 loss to the Orioles when his turn in the rotation came up. Aaron Bummer recorded Atlanta's first seven outs before Dodd entered and allowed two earned runs on two hits over 2.2 innings. Since Dodd tossed 39 pitches Saturday and was unlikely to be available out of the bullpen for another day or two, Atlanta opted to swap him off the 26-man roster for a fresh bullpen arm in Jesse Chavez, who was called up from Triple-A.
Jesse Chavez
Jesse Chavez Rejoins big club
Sun, Jul 6, 2025, 9:32 AM
Atlanta selected Chavez's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.
Analysis: Chavez will regain a spot on Atlanta's 40-man roster for the third time this season, as he had previously elected free agency and re-signed with the organization on minor-league deals after being designated for assignment on two occasions in April. Since signing his latest contract May 1, the 41-year-old righty has pitched well for Gwinnett, logging a 2.22 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB in 24.1 innings. He'll likely fill a low-leverage role for Atlanta.
Spencer Schwellenbach
Spencer Schwellenbach Moves to 60-day IL
Sun, Jul 6, 2025, 9:27 AM
Atlanta transferred Schwellenbach (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.
Analysis: Schwellenbach felt soreness in his elbow a day after a June 28 start against the Phillies and was sent for further tests, which revealed a small fracture. The 25-year-old is expected to be shut down from throwing for at least four weeks and is unlikely to return to the Atlanta rotation until September, so his move to the 60-day IL won't affect his recovery timeline. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for reliever Jesse Chavez, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Michael Harris II
Michael Harris II Idle for series finale
Sun, Jul 6, 2025, 9:22 AM
Harris is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.
Analysis: With Sunday's series finale beginning at 11:35 a.m. EDT and with southpaw Trevor Rogers on the bump for the Orioles, Harris will get a breather. The center fielder started each of Atlanta's first five games of July -- three against righties, two against lefties -- and went 4-for-20 with a triple, a stolen base and a run.
Marcell Ozuna
Marcell Ozuna Getting rare day off
Sun, Jul 6, 2025, 8:22 AM
Ozuna is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.
Analysis: Ozuna's run of 70 consecutive starts is coming to an end, but it's a good time for a break since he's batting .130 (6-for-46) with no extra-base hits in his past 13 contests. Drake Baldwin will fill in as the designated hitter for Atlanta on Sunday while Sean Murphy works behind the plate.
Ronald Acuna Jr.
Ronald Acuna Jr. Receiving Sunday off
Sun, Jul 6, 2025, 8:19 AM
Acuna is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.
Analysis: The 27-year-old will sit for just the second time since making his season debut in late May, with the first absence coming during a doubleheader. Acuna has been in a bit of a slump lately with no homers and a .488 OPS over his past 11 contests, so it's a good time for a reset after a run of 34 consecutive starts, especially with Sunday's early 11:35 a.m. ET start. Stuart Fairchild is manning right field for the series finale versus Baltimore
Matt Olson
Matt Olson Reaches five times in loss
Sat, Jul 5, 2025, 10:38 PM
Olson went 3-for-3 with two walks, a double, a home run, two RBI and two runs in Saturday's 9-6 loss to Baltimore in 10 innings.
Analysis: The first baseman went 0-for-4 in Friday's series opener to snap a 10-game hit streak, but he quickly bounced back Saturday with his sixth three-hit effort of the campaign. Olson is up to 17 homers on the season with 58 RBI, 49 runs and a .271/.372/.495 slash line through 88 contests.
Drake Baldwin
Drake Baldwin Belts homer No. 10
Sat, Jul 5, 2025, 8:31 AM
Baldwin went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Orioles.
Analysis: The rookie backstop accounted for all of Atlanta's offense when he crushed a Charlie Morton fastball to right field in the sixth inning. Baldwin has hit a bit of a wall over the last couple weeks, going just 2-for-18 since June 24, but both hits left the yard. On the season, he's slashing .274/.348/.476 with 10 homers and 28 RBI, and Atlanta seems content to deploy a timeshare behind the plate with Baldwin and Sean Murphy, with each catcher starting five of the last 10 games.
Spencer Strider
Spencer Strider Hurt by long balls in loss
Sat, Jul 5, 2025, 8:26 AM
Strider (3-7) took the loss Friday as Atlanta was downed 3-2 by the Orioles, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: The right-hander delivered his fifth quality start in his last six trips to the mound, but homers by Jordan Westburg in the third inning and Cedric Mullins in the fifth -- as well as a lack of run support -- stuck Strider with the loss. Over that six-outing stretch, he's posted a 3.00 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 44:13 K:BB in 36 innings as he inches closer to his pre-injury form. Strider will try to keep the ball in the yard in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week against the A's.
Aaron Bummer
Aaron Bummer Starting bullpen game
Fri, Jul 4, 2025, 9:18 PM
Bummer will start Saturday's game against the Orioles, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Atlanta is going to lean on its bullpen to get through Saturday's contest, and Bummer will officially take the mound for the first inning. The 31-year-old owns a 2.86 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through 34.2 frames on the year.
Jurickson Profar
Jurickson Profar Goes yard again Thursday
Fri, Jul 4, 2025, 10:07 AM
Profar went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Angels.
Analysis: The veteran outfielder is doing his best to make up for lost time, going yard in back-to-back games after being reinstated from his 80-game PED suspension. Profar should be a hot commodity on waiver wires this weekend as a result, but his second-half production still isn't likely to match the career-best pace he posted in 2024 at 31 years old, when he delivered 24 homers and an .839 OPS over 158 regular-season games for the Padres.
Bryce Elder
Bryce Elder Another poor showing in sixth loss
Fri, Jul 4, 2025, 3:24 AM
Elder (2-6) was charged with the loss Thursday against the Angels, giving up four runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: Elder's rough stretch dragged on, as he allowed at least four runs and seven hits in his fourth straight outing. His ERA once stood at a palatable 4.08 for the season following a brilliant 12-strikeout performance June 7, but that figure has since ballooned to 5.92. The right-hander has a disastrous 12.64 ERA, 2.81 WHIP and 13:11 K:BB over his last four appearances (15.2 frames), so he doesn't shape up as a particularly appealing fantasy option against the Athletics at hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park his next time out.
Joe Jimenez
Joe Jimenez Throws bullpen session
Thu, Jul 3, 2025, 3:57 PM
Jimenez (knee) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: It was his first time throwing off a mound since he had left knee surgery last November. Jimenez maintains hope of being ready to pitch for Atlanta sometime in August, but the reliever still has many hoops to jump through before making that a reality.
Drake Baldwin
Drake Baldwin Not in Thursday's lineup
Thu, Jul 3, 2025, 2:16 PM
Baldwin is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Baldwin started the first game of the series Monday but has now sat out each of the next two contests in favor of Sean Murphy. Murphy has started over Baldwin in four of the last five tilts, although Atlanta is facing a righty in Jose Soriano on Thursday for the first time during that span.
Michael Harris II
Michael Harris II Swipes 12th bag
Thu, Jul 3, 2025, 9:23 AM
Harris went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over the Angels.
Analysis: The center fielder produced his first multi-hit performance since June 13 in what has been a very trying campaign. Over 84 games, Harris is slashing just .217/.242/.328 with six homers and 19 runs, but with 12 steals and 43 RBI, he's actually on pace for career highs in both categories.
Jurickson Profar
Jurickson Profar Belts solo homer in return
Wed, Jul 2, 2025, 11:25 PM
Profar went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Angels.
Analysis: Profar made his first start since March 30 on Wednesday after serving his 80-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. He collected his first hit in the sixth on a single before belting a solo shot to right field in the seventh, his first long shot of the season. Profar will serve as Atlanta's everyday left fielder after the team designated Alex Verdugo for assignment. However, if Atlanta were to turn things around and make the playoffs, Profar would be ineligible to play due to his suspension.
Sean Murphy
Sean Murphy Launches go-ahead homer
Wed, Jul 2, 2025, 11:20 PM
Murphy went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run during Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Angels.
Analysis: Murphy struck out in his other three plate appearances, but he made his one hit count after taking the first pitch of the at-bat from Ryan Zeferjahn deep to left-center field for a three-run homer in the sixth. Murphy has smack a home run in each of his last three starts, and his 12 home runs is tied with Shea Langeliers for fourth most among major-league catchers this season.
